AGA X Fourth Year BDes (Hons) Illustration students at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design

We’re celebrating and congratulating the incredible Fourth Year BDes (Hons) Illustration students at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee, who we had the pleasure of collaborating with on a four-week illustration project in partnership with The Alasdair Gray Archive.

Throughout the project, students immersed themselves in materials from both The Alasdair Gray Archive and The Agnes Owens Archive, selecting stories, objects, and ideas that inspired their own creative responses. Their work explored the lives, legacies, and creative relationship between Alasdair Gray and Agnes Owens, transforming archival research into imaginative and thoughtful illustrations.

The project encouraged students to use illustration as a way of interpreting and communicating complex narratives, bringing archival histories to new audiences through research, experimentation, and creative practice. The resulting works demonstrate both critical engagement with the archives and the originality of each student’s voice.

A huge congratulations to Culann Mackay, Ella Cinjarevic, Erin Roy, Fearn Beddows, Fir Gurden, Fleur Pirie, Freya Smyth, Georgia McEwen, Holly Thomson, Iman Cinjarevic, Jade Anderson, Keziah Bryan, Martha Clark, Sophie Kelly, and Sunny Tsang.

With special thanks to course tutors Mick Peter and Michael Kirkham for their support throughout the project.
