The Alasdair Gray Archive is Moving
After six and a half years at The Whisky Bond (TWB), The Alasdair Gray Archive is preparing to move to a new location.
The move marks an important moment for the Archive and for AGA as an organisation. We are leaving TWB in October and beginning a new chapter for our collections, programme and practice. We want to thank all our friends and colleagues at TWB with whom we have collaborated over the last six years, we will miss them all.
We have a new location confirmed and will announce it, along with further information about access to the Archive, in the coming weeks. We know that people who work with, visit and care about the Archive will have questions about what happens next. In the meantime, we want to reassure you that AGA will continue to operate as an independent organisation, and our work with artists, researchers, audiences and communities will continue through this transition.
Since our inception, we have cared for approximately 5,000 items from the Alasdair Gray Estate collection, building knowledge around the material and developing commissions, research, learning and public activity around the archive. Alongside this, AGA has developed its own collection of approximately 3,500 items, including the newly opened The Agnes Owens Archive. This collection continues to grow, and we will soon be announcing two significant new acquisitions relating to Alasdair Gray’s visual and literary works. Watch this space!
The move represents an important transition for AGA and an opportunity to consider how we continue to care for, work with and create new activity around archival material in the next phase of the organisation. There will be a period during which access to the Archive changes as we prepare for and undertake the move. For now, please see our Frequently Asked Questions on our website for information about the move and what to expect. We look forward to sharing more about the next chapter of the Alasdair Gray Archive soon.
